You Say Tomato…

Via Soil-Net Library

We recently came across this cool episode of The Leonard Lopate Show on WNYC public radio in New York about our dear, dear friend the tomato.  We love a white pie as much as the next person, but can you imagine the pizza without the tomato?

In the first part of a series called Globavores, based around the Columbian Exchange, Mr. Lopate sits down with PBS favorite and chef Lidia Bastianich and culinary historian Andrew F. Smith to discuss the pizza staple’s roots from coastal Peru and Sicily. Ending up all the way to pizza parlors and Italian restaurants across the globe.

Andrew and Lidia swap stories about who did what when and how and who did what first and where? Have we confused you yet? Don’t take our word for it, listen to the experts.
